Oswal Woollen Mills Ltd

We believe in the philosophy “success is tradition and growth is imperative”. Oswal Woollen Mills Limited (OWM) is the parent company of the Nahar Group of Companies (the Nahar Group). OWM was incorporated in 1949 by Late Mr. Vidya Sagar Oswal, father of Mr. Jawahar Lal Oswal, the present Chairman and Managing Director. OWM is one of the pioneers of the organized Indian Woollen hosiery industry. It made a modest beginning as a manufacturer of hosiery items, followed by setting up a worsted Woollen spinning plant of 800 spindles in 1954 to serve as a backward integration of the then existing manufacturing activities. It was one of the first worsted Woollen spinning plants in Northern India. We believe in the philosophy ‘Success is Tradition and Growth is imperative’.

Marching ahead and keeping pace with overall industrial development in India, the company is now one of the biggest producers of worsted woollen yarns in the country. In March 2006 the company added manufacturing of indigo dyed specialty denim fabric to its existing vast range of product portfolios. It has since produced 40 million meters of Denim Cloth per annum and expects to produce a total of 60 million meters by December 2012. There are two Denim Cloth units in 2 separate locations: one in Lalru, near Chandigarh (Punjab) and a second new plant in Bhopal Madya Pradesh. Although the denim plant in Lalru started with another make of looms, last year, after seeing Picanol looms’ performance in other units, the company’s management came to the conclusion that for heavy fabric like Denim, Picanol was also the best solution. It opted to complete its next two expansion plans with the Picanol OMNIplus 800 & OMNIplus Summum models. The Bhopal Unit is a green field project that was initiated in 2011 on denim fabric and is the first unit in India where the OMNIplus Summum airjet machines are installed.
