Getzner Textil
Getzner Textil was founded by Christian Getzner, Frans Xaver Mutter and Andreas Gassner in 1818. Just two years later the company already employed 3000 people for weaving and spinning. Nowadays, the five subsidiary companies each specialize in their own aspect of the weaving and spinning process. Getzner Textil is now the leading manufacturer of high-quality damasks for African apparel and is among the leading providers of fashion fabrics for shirts. The company is particularly proud to be able to carry the Bluesign® Standard label. Thanks to this system the whole manufacturing process is environmentally friendly and safe. Furthermore, Getzner Textil is a pioneer in regional electricity generation and supply, with the emphasis on maintaining its environment-friendly image.
The company’s products are divided into three areas: African damask, fashion fabrics and technical fabrics. The first of these, African damask, is a niche market in West Africa. In this part of the world people wear "boubous," the typical clothing decorated with intricate embroidery. Getzner Textil specializes in producing these robes, some of which are passed on from one generation to the next as a status symbol. Another department where the company's know-how in dying and color weaving is very important is in fashion fabrics. These in turn are divided into fashion fabrics for shirts and for corporate fashion. Famous brands that use Getzner Textil fabrics include Armani, Kenzo, Karl Lagerfeld and Givenchy. At the same time Getzner Textil draws on its in-house experience and know-how for its own corporate fashion collection. Lastly there are technical fabrics, developed by the company's state-of-the-art laboratories and advanced expertise. In 2015 Getzner Textil began construction of a brand-new plant for weaving African damask in its home city of Gera, Germany. The new plant consists of four identical weaving rooms, each housing 60 weaving machines with jacquard. For this new project Getzner Textil has decided to purchase 180 new Picanol OMNIplus Summum airjet weaving machines with jacquard for weaving African damask. The decision to buy Picanol airjets was taken after an extensive trial during which Picanol proved to have the most efficient and high-performance airjet weaving machines available in the market. Installation of the Picanol OMNIplus Summum airjet weaving machines began at the end of 2015 and was completed by the fall of 2016.
